ENCHANTING GARDEN RETREAT A NOTE FROM THE SELLERS
This garden was originally designed by Little & Little Designs. They are now retired, but their beautiful work lives on in this garden. The front and back garden have beautiful colors all year long. The blooms are listed below based on a Calendar year.
January: The front garden will start blooming with the Winter White Camelia. It’s a delicate flower. The winter heather in the back garden will become a beautiful purple color and brighten up the space over the next month. The hellebore are in full bloom now as well - the front garden is full of them. They also line the left side path to the backyard as well.
February: Brings the Plum blossoms lining the driveway. They are a beautiful dark pink flower that gives you an invigorating sneak peek into the upcoming spring. They motivate me to start preparing my garden for the months to come.
February-March: Soon, the cherry blossom trees at the front, the daffodils and the hyacinth begin to take shape and bring spring into full color. My neighbors often call my house “the Easter House” because of all the color. During these months the amazing witch hazel blooms and my garden smells amazing and is filled with the gorgeous yellow color and a sweet smell on the trees that line the entrance to the gate. It is heavenly. At the same time, the huckleberry blooms on both sides of the house and the sweet honeysuckle smell is everywhere. It’s the best. Also, during these months, the Firestarter Japonicas in the back garden begin to grow fire red leaves and white blooms. It is AMAZING! One of my most favorite plants! As the season progresses, they change to a soft white leaf and then a pretty green leaf for the remainder of the year. This plant gives great coverage.
April: Now the pink Camelia start to bloom in late April and the tree is splendid. After the blooms start to fade, our neighbor's pink camelia starts to bloom, so the color keeps going on for another month or so.
April-May: I have two other cherry blossom trees in the garden, but they don’t bloom until May. It’s a nice balance.
May-June: The Japanese maple will start to grow its beautiful red leaves and the azaleas under it will start to bloom white and then a pretty coral color.
May-June: So much starts to happen now - the new things springing to life are the Lupines throughout the garden, the Rhododendron, peach iris, and lilies begin to bloom. The small dogwood starts with its pretty white flowers and then will move on to its bright red berries. The birds love this tree!
July-November: The garden is in full bloom! The 9 types of roses are in full bloom (peach, pink, red, white, coral lavender, etc) . Many with wonderful fragrances. The Dahlias will keep every vase in your home full of fresh cut flowers! There are several types of hydrangeas blooming and they will stay beautiful until the fall. They are one of my most favorite flowers! Great for cutting and creating arrangements if you want to do so. The black-eyed Susan plants bring a cheerful color along with the rich lavender purple blooming strong this time of year.
December: This is the only quiet month in the garden, but the roses may still be going strong!
One of my most favorite plants is the Gingko tree near the Torii bench in the front garden. This amazing plant is depicted in both of the garden gates. It has amazing leaves and makes me smile! It just wants a bit of water and is low maintenance otherwise.
The back garden on the beach side is mainly a summer blooming space that takes no effort, drought tolerant and loves the sun. The colors are mostly green, yellow and red. I change the pots out depending on my mood. Usually, I love geraniums in the back because they love the sun! The bees also love the plants!
